Role: Club Treasurer

The Club Treasurer plays a key role in the club’s committee, responsible for managing the club’s income and expenditure, preparing and presenting financial reports, ensuring that the accounts are audited, liaising with the Club Secretary, Club Chair and other committee members on financial matters, advising on budgeting, fundraising, and financial planning, collecting and banking payments, paying bills and expenses, seeking external funding and grants, and being financially liable for the club.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Keep accurate records of all income and expenditure of the club
  • Prepare and present financial reports at committee meetings and the AGM
  • Ensure that the club’s accounts are audited
  • Liaise with the Club Secretary and other committee members on financial matters
  • Advise the committee on budgeting, fundraising, and financial planning
  • Collect and bank membership fees and other payments
  • Pay bills and expenses on behalf of the club
  • Seek external funding and grants where appropriate
  • Be financially liable for the club, including all legal responsibilities

Skills and qualifications

  • Good numeracy and bookkeeping skills (required)
  • Experience in accounting or finance (useful but not required)
  • Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations (useful but not required)
  • Ability to use spreadsheets and online banking (required)
  • Honesty and integrity (required)
  • Good communication and teamwork skills (required)

Appointment and term

  • The Club Treasurer is appointed at the AGM by ratification by the Committee and Club
  • The term of office is one year, renewable at the AGM
  • The Club Treasurer will be required to shadow the current treasurer in the interim
